"The Dreamer" by K.C. Johnson

"The Dreamer dreams of things unseen,
The scepticts laugh, and the cynics scream,
Yet once in a while the Dreamer smiles,
He knows his dream can pass their trials,
'Impossible!' the experts say,
And they laugh the Dreamer's dream away,
But some believe and hope and pray,
So the Dreamer tries it anyway."

This poem was written by my uncle K.C. He has started writing and publishing children's books, and this was on the back of one of his books. I feel like this poem was written for someone like me. I am totally a Dreamer. People tell me that i'll never be as good as the best, or tell me that there's a very slim chance that i'll reach a goal. But i don't let that slow me down one bit. I hold on to my dreams, and make them happen. Notice how part of the name of this blog is "Dream." That's because i believe in dreamers like the one in this poem. If you have a dream, go after it. Don't just let it die because people get in the way and tell you that you can't live your dream. If you really want it, go for it. Make it happen. Have no regrets. :)

Note to self: get outside more often ;)

First off: I know it's been FOR-EV-ER since i blogged. Sorry, but when you dance from 8-4 for 3 weeks straight, then leave for New York for 2 weeks, then FINALLY have a week off from dancing, you don't feel very motivated to sit on the computer and type for an hour.

However, i recently had an "A-ha" moment that i would like to share. :)

This past weekend, we celebrated the 24th and had our annual family reunion. My family and i packed up our stuff, drove down Heber Valley, into South Fork Canyon, and to one of my most favorite places on Earth: the cabin. :) It's so nice there. There's dirt roads to wander, fields to explore, tents to sleep in, a river to tube down, and just the scenery around you is gorgeous. It was so nice to get out of town, away from neon lights and fancy cars, away from dance, away from my house I hardly ever leave, and especially away from my phone! I swear i spend way too much time on my Droid. (But really, with it's 3G internet, solitaire, and a Facebook app, how can i stay away?? xD) Seriously, as soon as my phone lost service, i turned it OFF. No more texts. No more emails. No more Facebook updates. Just fresh air, trees, and 3 days for my own sanity. :)

One day, i sat down at the table outside on the patio to play solitaire. (not on my phone, with cards) I won the first game i played!! That hardly EVER happens to me, it usually takes about 3 tries before i actually win. I was so happy, i thought,"I should remember this moment, just for bragging purposes; exactly what i'm wearing, where i was at, the scene around me..." Then i really started looking at the scene around me. I looked straight ahead of me between 2 huge pine trees at one of the tallest mountains around. It was just so pretty. You don't see places like that any more, unless you take the time to drive at least an hour somewhere. Then i started to think about what this whole place must have looked like when my Great Great Grandparents bought this property. Back then it was just grass and trees. Then i remembered that my Great Grandpa built our 2 cabins with his bare hands.

I realized in that moment how lucky i am to have everything i have. A great grandpa who dedicated his time to bettering the lives of his children and grandchildren, and how much he must have sacrificed. I have such wonderful parents: My dad is the greatest (and only) priesthood holder i could ever ask for in our home. (it just so happens that at the time, my dad was working in the temple by our house, something he recently decided to start doing) My mom is truly the best mom ever. Even tho she can a be a bit paranoid, (as in i get more texts from her than i do from anyone else) how could i live without her? i wouldn't be who i am without her. I have the best opportunity for dance, i couldn't have asked for better. I even started thinking about smaller things i'm grateful for: Nice clothes, nice phone, and flat-screen tv, a roof over my head, 3 decent meals a day, candy....(i'm especially grateful for candy :D) Some people don't have any of those luxuries. They're lucky if they go to bed at night with food in there stomachs and a dry, covered place to sleep.

I think we should all really realize how lucky we are. We should all savor and remember moments like this all the time

The great outdoors really is great :)
