GC was great fun! We went up to Heber Valley camp (you know, that BRAND SPANKIN NEW one that EVERYONE dreams of going to?? Ya, that one) It was gorgeous. It was run by the nicest people, it was CLEAN, and the best part: we slept in cabins!! :D
I loved the fact that the whole camp all looked so natural, yet industrial. All the pathways, for example, (The path to the pavilion, the path to the cookhouse where we ate, etc.) was all wood chips, and outlined in small logs. But the logs looked like they were man-made. As in, cut down a tree, cut it into pieces, and carve and sand it down so it looks nice. Nothing plastic, all real. Same with the benches at the pavilion. They were huge logs cut in half, and smaller logs with big "V's" cut out of them, set at each end of the big log for it sit in. All of these things just made it feel like a real camp, even tho it was brand new and the camp hosts drove around in brand new golf carts and there was a real blacktop highway leading to the other camps instead of a dirt road. :D
The only bad moment of the whole week was probably the overnight hike....
Look how peppy and excited we look....
We had no idea what was coming for us....
It was HORRIBLE. I WILL NEVER DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN. First off, we are all 15-17-year-old teenage girls. I repeat: WE ARE ALL TEENAGE GIRLS! Why would they force us to do something like this in the first place?! I'm ok with camping, but not every girl in our ward is OK with camping! Let alone a hike to the middle of nowhere to sleep on the ground! Not even in a tent! And the worst part: it was a mile and a half, and the ENTIRE, i repeat, THE ENTIRE hike was uphill at a 45 degree angle. And it was hot, and the whole trail was bushes so our pants were wet and filthy dirty, and i was ready to throw myself off the trail, onto the hill, and roll down to my death.
But hey, once we got there it was ok. >:P
I still hated it >:(
I still hated it >:(
Once we got to the camp (which was on flat ground. HALLELUIAH.) The view was pretty. ;D
And i found a big mushroom :D
On a happier note the whole week was great. We made lots of memories there, we had fun activities, our leaders came up with the cutest, funnest crafts, and of course, the whole week was full of spirit :)
The best night was, of course, the last night of the week: Testimony Meeting. I was especially excited to share it with my dad, who came up the day before. It was the best Testimony meeting i've ever witnessed. It all started when this tiny little 12-year-old Beehive stood up to share her testimony. She hadn't been in YW's hardly at all, because she turned 12 late, but she was the cutest little thing, and i got to know her better at camp. The first thing she said when she stood up was, "I'm grateful for Brielle." she said more than that, but i don't quite remember. All I remember is that was when i started crying, i didn't stop for the rest of the meeting. Then i stood up and shared my testimony. It wasn't much, because i haven't had much of a testimony until i went to Book of Mormon Journey the weekend before, and i shared that. But i'll just tell you now that i'm grateful for the testimony i have right now, because it has strengthened me so much. Anyway, a couple people me, my dad stood up. His testimony was so honest. I can't say any more, really. After the meeting, i stood up and walked straight to my dad and gave him a hug. I had been sitting clear across the crowd from him during the whole meeting, and during the whole meeting i wanted to be next to him so bad. We stood there for a long time in eachother's arms. He thanked me for being so honest when i shared my testimony. I was so glad that he came up to camp. Even for 1 day. I love it when he comes :)
P.S. I'm sorry to those of you who read this and aren't LDS and maybe don't understand some of it. But since this is my new journal (see my 1st post here) i had to write it down. :)
P.S.S. Did i mention that during Testimony Meeting, we watched a huge lightning storm literally circle the mountain that our camp was on? Ya. Amazing. ;)
